If you look closely at the photos of the City Corp construction, you might notice that several of the V-shaped middle columns are still there. These columns prevent the braces from bending and collapsing, and help support the loads of the upper floors. However, they don't support the majority of the gravity load. Therefore, I omitted these columns from the diagram illustrating the load transfer path.
