Країна, яка 200 років сперечається, чи має існувати
🎭 On August 25, 1830, the Brussels Opera gave a performance of "The Mute from Portici." The usual production - until the tenor sang the aria "Sacred Love for the Fatherland." The hall rose. The audience left the theater on the street - and never returned home. By morning, the center of Brussels was on fire. A month later, the country in its previous form no longer existed. Three months later, Europe in London was hastily writing a constitution for it. Thus began Belgium. A country that has been arguing for two hundred years whether it even has the right to exist. 😨 And here's what bothers me: once this country lived for five hundred and forty-one days without a government. A world record. And nothing happened. The garbage was taken out, the schools worked, the trains ran on schedule. This video is not an ordinary collection of facts about Belgium. It is an attempt to understand how a state that, according to all the laws of political physics, should not exist, became the most stable in Europe. Because when I started to analyze its paradoxes one by one, the picture turned out to be too amazing to simply dismiss. This video will have everything. Three nations and a language border that is one and a half thousand years old - it runs through the country with an accuracy of a centimeter, although it is not on any map. The opera that started the revolution. Talleyrand, who said that Belgium is not a nation. Six parliaments on a territory smaller than the Chernihiv region. And then - something that almost no one knows about. 🛰️ The Flanders Fields, where chemical weapons were used for the first time in the world. The Solvay Congress, where all the great physicists of the century gathered in one hall. Tintin, the saxophone and the diamond capital of the world. A country that can be seen from space — and which, according to the astronaut, can be navigated without devices. And finally — the only thing that the Flemish and Walloons are absolutely unanimous about. The thing for which they are ready to forget all the language wars. 🍺 French fries, which were invented here, not in France. One and a half thousand types of beer, each in its own glass. Chocolate — and the shadow of the Congo behind it. And the main question that makes it hard to sleep: how can you argue for two hundred years — and never shoot at each other? 💬 Write in the comments what struck you the most: five hundred and forty-one days without a government; the opera that started the country; the longest tram in the world; Antwerp as a diamond capital; Trappist monasteries that have been brewing beer since the thirteenth century; or mussels with fries. I am very interested in what struck you. ❤️ If the video opened up a new side of Belgium for you — give it a like, it really helps the channel and the algorithm to show such investigations to more people. Subscribe and click on the bell 🔔 — the next episode will be about a place with no less secrets. See you later. In the meantime — stay tuned.
