The Thun lido and outdoor swimming pool is located in the city of Thun at the outflow of the Aare from Lake Thun.in the canton of Bern in Switzerland. The lido of Thun goes back to a facility of 1923, whose wooden buildings are still standing today. The modern part with the elongated building made of reinforced concrete is built in 1932-33, the architects are Jacques Wipf and Edgar Schweizer. In 1968 the bath is extended to 50'000 square meters, making it probably the third largest open-air bath in Switzerland. In comparison: Allenmoos ZH and Schwimmbad St. Jakob BS with about 45'000 square meters each, Gartenbad Bachgraben BS with 51'431 square meters, the open-air bath Bellerive Plage Lausanne with about 75'000 square meters. The Thuner outdoor swimming pool attracts not only with competition pool, 10m diving tower and architectural highlights, but also with a spectacular view over Lake Thun and into the Oberland mountains. During three winter seasons from 2017 to 2020, the Strandbad Thun underwent a complete renovation.
