Boho Painted Dresser Tutorial using Iron Orchid Designs Paint Inlays
Hello from us here at Made by Marley we are Up-cyclers and furniture artists. Welcome to my tutorial for those that fancy some furniture art or want to learn to paint in a boho style. Thanks for watching me today... I bought this stunning Lancashire dresser at auction. So I decided to turn it into a stunning piece of furniture art. I wanted to really show this piece of furniture before and after . So using Annie Sloan furniture paint ( paints listed below) I set about the task. So how to paint boho furniture? I think colour and texture is important and this piece had the added benefit of plenty of details. It came to me painted a very dark grey almost black and I decided to work with that and use the dark colour as my base layer. I show you how to use a dry brush technique to produce a custom orange/red over the piece and dry brushing is one of those painted furniture techniques that makes an amazing statement on a piece with detail. It's very simple but has a huge impact and hopefully my instructions will show how to paint furniture for beginners and those just starting and want to know how to paint furniture. I then dry brushed some orange to highlight the dresser and this would not be a boho furniture tutorial without adding some vibrancy and florals.... I used the new Iron Orchid Designs Paint Inlays and show how simple to they are. I run though each step on how to apply. Once the floral interest was applied I then looked at its overall colour and if you want to know how to paint in a bohemian style then adding as much colour is key.... It was looking slightly all one tone possibly to orangy if that's a word. So I decided to apply a turquoise mixing paint with a pallet knife to balance the dresser and make it look more cohesive. A real furniture artist knows colour but if your struggling, buy a colour wheel from Amazon and it will help with your colour choices or look on Pinterest at colour pallets. I applied gold gilding paste to the high spots and completed my furniture flip dresser by applying new hardware. I adjusted the colour of my handles to work with my piece. I sealed it with furniture laquer and then waxed both the natural wood and the whole piece for extra protection. And voila it was easy to create even though there were various steps..
