The Library of Babel is a short story written by Jorge Luis Borges. Narrated by an old man at the end of his life, it drops us into a never-ending library of endless hexagonal rooms, shelves stacked to the ceiling, every book the same physical format. 410 pages, 40 lines per page, about 80 characters per line, black ink, meaningless letters on the spine. A universe made of text, most of it gibberish, some of it terrifyingly, impossibly precise. In this video we break down what Borges is really doing with the Library, why “infinite knowledge” turns into existential horror.
