Visit the Cambodian Countryside 🛺🐄🇰🇭

We had the best day on this Tour of the countryside just outside of Siem Reap!!! Cambodian countryside is rich in culture, tradition, and natural beauty. With its scenic landscapes and serene environment, it is a perfect escape for those seeking a break from the hustle and bustle of the big towns and cities. Located in the heart of Southeast Asia, Cambodia boasts a diverse countryside that is home to rice fields, waterways, lush forests, and majestic mountains. Cambodia's countryside is also infused with the country's rich cultural heritage. The countryside is dotted with ancient temples and shrines, including the iconic Angkor Wat, which is one of the world's largest religious monuments. In addition to this, there are numerous other temples and pagodas scattered throughout rural Cambodia, each with its unique style and history. The lifestyle of rural communities in Cambodia is deeply rooted in agriculture, with rice farming being the primary occupation. During the rainy season, the countryside comes alive with a vibrant green color as the rice fields grow, ready to be harvested during the dry season. The Khmer people have developed an intricate irrigation system that allows them to grow rice all year round, ensuring a steady supply of this staple food. Cambodian countryside is also home to several natural wonders, such as the Mekong River and Tonle Sap Lake. The Mekong River is one of the longest rivers in Asia, stretching over 4,900 km and is a source of food, water, and transportation for many rural communities. Tonle Sap Lake, on the other hand, is the largest freshwater lake in Southeast Asia and is home to unique aquatic species that cannot be found anywhere else in the world. Baray Estary, also known as Baray Anlong Thom, is a large man made reservoir located in the Siem Reap province of Cambodia. The baray was created during the reign of King Indravarman I of the Khmer Empire in the 9th century AD and is one of the largest barays in the country. The Baray Estary spans over an area of approximately 4 square kilometers and is surrounded by a massive earthen embankment, which measures over 8 kilometers in length. The reservoir was designed to provide controlled irrigation to the surrounding agricultural lands and served as a vital component of the ancient Khmer Empire's hydraulic system. The water source of the Baray Estary is the Siem Reap River, which flows down into the reservoir and is controlled by a series of gates located at each end of the embankment. These gates were used to manage the levels within the baray and ensure a consistent water supply for the surrounding areas. In addition to its practical uses, the Baray Estary also served as a cultural and religious center during the Khmer Empire. Temples, shrines, and other religious structures were built on its banks, and the reservoir played a significant role in ritual ceremonies and water festivals.
