Dr Bitzer founded the Hollywood Church of Religious Science and served as its minister for 64 years. He also served for 15 years as president of the International New Thought Alliance, and 10 years as president of Religious Science International. He also founded Creative Thought magazine and served for many years as its chairperson and editor. Members of the Hollywood Church of Religious Science included many celebrities such as Eve Arden (Mildred Pierce, Our Miss Brooks, The Mothers-in-Law, Grease, Grease 2, etc) and Dwayne Hickman (The Many Loves of Dobie Gillis). In 1987, after 57 years of serving as pastor of the Hollywood Church of Religious Science, Dr Bitzer assigned as co-pastor Dr Domenic A. Polifrone. In June 1990 Dr Polifrone went on to start his own work, forming the New Thought Center of Los Angeles. Dr Bitzer again took over the full-time pastorship until his death on May 30, 1994 at the age of 98. To carry on Dr Bitzer’s work, Dr Polifrone was asked to be the spiritual director, and his New Thought Center merged with the Hollywood Church on March 3, 1996.
