The show recounts the life of Barbaros Hayreddin Pasha, also known as "Red Beard," and his three brothers, who achieved unforgettable victories during the overseas expeditions of the Ottoman Empire in the 16th century, under the reign of Suleiman the Magnificent. As the Grand Admiral (Kapudan Pasha) of the empire, Hayreddin Pasha secured Ottoman dominance over the Mediterranean. His greatest ally in conquering all Mediterranean coasts was his brother, Oruç Reis. Barbaros Hayreddin Pasha's real name was Hızır. The name "Hayreddin," meaning "the goodness of the faith," was given to him by Sultan Selim I in recognition of his services to the Ottoman State. The name "Barbarossa" actually belonged to his older brother, Oruç Reis, but after his death, it was also used for Hayreddin Pasha.
