Teachers Aren't The Only Ones Calling Out Parents...Is This Getting Worse?

Teachers aren't the only ones calling out parents. Is this getting worse? Because it's not just educators anymore — parents are calling out other parents. And that shift says something. Download my free parent guide available below to help you get started with reading. www.jonayves.com/jonayves-parent-reading-pdf For a while the narrative was clear — teachers frustrated with families, educators venting about what kids are bringing into the classroom. But the conversation has expanded. Now parents themselves are saying other parents aren't doing enough. That too many families are checked out, distracted, or passing responsibility off to schools and screens. And that stings differently than hearing it from a teacher. But before this becomes one big pile-on, there's a question worth asking — is parenting actually the root problem, or is it a symptom of something bigger? Because the parents who are being called out are often the same ones juggling impossible schedules, limited support, and a system that was never really designed to help them succeed at home and at work simultaneously. The system expects a lot from parents without giving them much to work with. No real roadmap for what kids need at each stage. No clear bridge between what happens in school and what should happen at home. Just a general expectation that families will figure it out — and judgment when they don't. Parents are still in the picture. Most of them are working hard. The question is whether hard work is enough when the structure around them isn't set up to support it. I've worked with thousands of families from Kindergarten to Grade 12. The problem is rarely a lack of effort. It's almost always a lack of information. Do you think parents are the problem — or is something else getting in the way? Leave a comment. If your child is struggling with reading or math, the guide above is a good place to start.
