You Asked, I Answered | Learn Hittite Q&A (Kalasmaic, Burushaski, Ural-Altaic & More)

In this Learn Hittite Q&A, I answer a selection of viewer questions on historical linguistics, ancient languages, and language-family proposals. Topics include Kalasmaic, the newly identified Anatolian language from the Hittite archives; whether I’ll return to the Hittite lessons; why linguists don’t always use IPA; what happened to the Ural-Altaic hypothesis; the status of Penutian; Burushaski and Indo-European; Uralo-Yukaghir and Uralo-Siberian; Proto-Tungusic case endings; and the preservation of endangered languages. This is a more relaxed, podcast-style video rather than a full deep dive into one topic, but I try to give clear and reasonably cautious answers to some of the questions that come up most often in the comments. A big thank you to everyone who comments, asks questions, and sends me ideas for future videos. I really do appreciate it. Keep your eyes peeled for the next proper video as well. We’ll be heading back into the world of substrates.
