Throats were protected this Tuesday in Chiprana with the honors the town bestowed upon Saint Blaise. He is one of the town's patron saints and also the protector of this part of the body, which has been put to the test since the weekend with dancing, singing, meals, dinners, bonfires, and hours of music. The people of Chiprana fared well, although some didn't and their vocal cords weren't in good condition by the end of the festivities, so Saint Blaise will be a healing blessing in those cases. "Well, it's been a very intense few days, we've had a great time, but we've made it to the patron saint's day in good shape, a day of pride," says the mayor, Javier Nicolás, who explains that this is what the buns and ribbons to tie around necks are for. "Lots of them are bought, and they have a blessing. The buns are delicious, and even if you have ribbons from a year ago, you have to get a new one each time, and people take note of this," he adds. In Chiprana, the patron saint's day is celebrated on the day it falls on the calendar. If it falls on a workday, it's still celebrated regardless of the number of people present. There's always a turnout; the saint is never alone, as was evident in the Spanish wine and the Mass.
