1933 Auburn Boattail Speedster V12 | Priceless Classics | Fountainhead Antique Auto Museum in Alaska
On this episode of My Classic Car, we’re taking a grand tour of the world’s northernmost car museum. The immaculate and elegant V12-powered 1933 Auburn Boattail Speedster we start off with barely scratches the surface of the extraordinary automobiles here. The Fountainhead Antique Auto Museum is home to an unbelievable collection of classics we hadn’t even heard of until this visit, including some wild machines from Alaska's Gold Rush Era. One of the best parts of this automotive archive, almost everything here is ready to drive! After the Auburn, we head over to a historical Midget racecar. This 1934 Offenhauser is a very special little racer, driven by Midget Auto Racing Hall of Famer Bob Swanson. Considering the power packed into this tiny road rocket and the number of races it won, it’s absolutely mind blowing to see it showcased so nicely here. Then we head over to a unique two-seater from 1920. Only 24 Argonne Roadsters were ever built, but this one is even rarer. This Argonne is one of only 2 made with a Rochester Duesenberg “Walking Beam” engine. It could effortlessly run 80mph and get up to 20 miles per gallon, and Dennis gets to take this lone survivor for a spin! Fountainhead also has the very first automobile in Alaska. Completing the project in 1906, eighteen year old Bobby Sheldon constructed this one of a kind vehicle out of whatever pieces he could scrounge up, including a Ferro Special 2-cycle marine engine. It’s cool enough that it is the only car produced in The Last Frontier, but the story of why he insisted on building it is what really got our attention. We also checked out a couple crazy cycle cars that never really caught on. The 1914 Woods Mobilette is a squeezed and stretched little buggy that you just have to see to know what we’re talking about. With optional brakes and single passenger rows, the Mobilette sure makes for an interesting ride. After that, we head over to a special prototype from 1898. The Hay Hotchkiss horseless carriage was a milestone in the transition from buggies to automobiles. This historical vehicle was a major technological breakthrough at the time, and since it’s the only one ever built it’s absolutely amazing to see it in such great condition here in the Fountainhead Museum. Last but not least, another car that happens to be the only one of its kind left in the world. This 1906 Compound on display is actually the first vehicle made with emissions in mind. This eco-friendly motorized carriage was had as many automotive advancements as it did style and class. We’re firing this early 20th Century beauty up and taking it for a spin on this unbelievable show. 0:00 - Intro 1:14 – 1933 Auburn Boattail Speedster with V12 Engine 2:43 – 1934 Offenhauser Midget Racecar 4:22 – 1920 Argonne Roadster powered by a 100HP Duesenberg Engine 6:50 - 1906 Bobby Sheldon’s Hand-Built Automobile – Alaska’s First Car 8:46 – 1914 Woods Mobilette Cycle Car 10:41 – 1898 Hay Hotchkiss One-of-One Horseless Carriage 12:11 – 1906 Compound – Eco-friendly Motor Coach #MyClassicCar #ClassicCar #DennisGage #FountainheadAntiqueAutoMuseum #CollectorCars #CarMuseum #AntiqueCars #AlaskaClassicCars #AlaskaCarMuseum #VisitAlaska #TheLastFrontier #FairbanksAlaska #AuburnSpeedster #MidgetRacing #GrandTour S15E22
