Growing up in South Jersey, Patti toiled in a factory job, read poetry, and plotted her escape. In New York, she became a poet herself... and when that poetry was put to music - minds were blown. Once she'd given rock & roll the shot of adrenaline it needed, Patti retired to the suburbs to raise a family with her husband, the late Fred 'Sonic' Smith from the mighty MC5. Now back in New York - and touring the world with her most recent album 'Banga' - Patti is far from retiring: her many projects include a mystery novel, a film, a screenplay, plus another book - the follow-up to 'Just Kids'. Plus there's 'Patti Smith: Camera Solo' - an exhibit of her own photography and installation work, a rare glimpse into Patti's personal world - on display in Canada for the first time at the Art Gallery of Ontario, February 9-May 19, 2013.
