(25.80 usd) 9/10 GOAN OCTOPUS CHILLI FRY i love the sweetness of the tomato in this preparation, the octopus however, has a bite that borders on being chewy. the flavours of this dish is one you would enjoy in a shack somewhere on the beaches of goa. rs 1200. (16.75 usd) 7/10 KOONDAL PORICHATU the batter-fried masala coated squid is cooked to springy perfection and the masala has penetrated all the way through. the fresh acidity of a squeeze of lime cradles that gentle spicing of the squid. this is the sort of dish that would make for a very happy bar snack. rs 1200. (16.75 usd) 9/10 WHOLE SILVER POMFRET RECHEADO this dish of whole fried silver pomfret is a taste of goa! liberally coated in the sweet, tart and hot goan recheado masala, both inside and out, you taste notes of the goan palm vinegar and the aggressive punch of chilli as you devour the dish. rs 1200. (16.75 usd) 8.5/10 TIGER PRAWN MALABAR STYLE a signature dish at karavalli i keep returning for! these meaty tiger prawns are first fried to perfect scrumptiousness and then tossed in a vivacious masala of shallots, tomatoes and pepper. rs 1800. (25.10 usd) 10/10 SEA CRAB GHEE ROAST these meaty sea crabs, cooked in a ghee roast masala are divine! i love the mild sweetness of that crab meat (tastes just like the ocean!). the butteriness of that well rounded masala embraces the natural flavours of the crab. rs 1450. (20.20 usd) 9/10 KOLI BARTHAD a speciality here on the menu, this is a dish that hails from coorg. pieces of chicken are pan fried in a bunch of spices and kachampuli. the deeply roasted spices that have melded together as one. rs 995. (13.88 usd) 8.5/10 MUTTON STEW this is a textbook syrian christian stew with the mellow coconut base carrying just the subtlest hint of spicing. the meat is soft, you taste its nourishment in every strand. rs 1150. (16.05 usd) 10/10 PRAWN CALDEEN this goan-style curry is a pleasant melange of flavours. you taste the freshness of the coriander, the spice of the green chilli, raspy bite of the ginger and the creaminess of the coconut in the sauce. the prawns are juicy having absorbed all that goodness. rs 1450. (20.20 usd) 9/10 ALAPPUZHA MEEN CURRY the deep, spice notes in this alleppey fish curry catches hold of your palate from the first bite. the seer, a meaty fish, is the right medium to convey and carry these bold flavours of coconut, ginger and raw mango. rs 1150. (16.05 usd) 9.5/10 DODOL my favourite way to end a meal at karavalli is with the dodol, a goan dessert made with rice flour that has been well roasted with palm jaggery and loads of butter! it is rich and dark, each bite is lush, buttery yet dry. rs 475.
