About 110 V power supply

Why a 100 volt power system is employed on building sites and how a 100 volt- 240 volt transformer is used to transform a domestic 240 volt supply down to 110 volts. All portable electric tools must be 110 volts on UK building sites. As hire centres hire more to the trade than they do to domestic users, most of their kit is 110 volt.
