"I'll hand the line over to the ship!" What's the big deal? You might be thinking. Yet you have no idea about all the technology aboard the Costa Smeralda and how the Festival's live broadcast by sea works. To show you the behind-the-scenes details of the LED screen mounted on the side of the ship and the technical aspects of the connection with the land-based control room, we took a tour of the ship off the coast of Sanremo. We witnessed the installation of the LED screen—made up of 748,800 LEDs—on the side of the ship and saw how LED mesh technology allows for live reactive messages, thanks to two onboard control rooms. But that's not all: we visited the ship's control room, where we were shown how the innovative automated stabilization technology developed on the Costa Smeralda works to maintain stable communication with the land-based control room.
