He believes the prosecutors continually changed the narrative of the indictment and ignored the facts that had emerged during the five-month trial. Nadiem stated that the legal process he underwent seemed to ignore proven facts and instead introduced a new narrative not included in the initial indictment, namely regarding white-collar crime. "Because there was no evidence, the narrative changed. They said that this proves Nadiem is very clever at hiding his evidence. So how can I defend myself? The absence of evidence is used as evidence," he said at the Central Jakarta Corruption Court on Tuesday (June 9, 2026). Nadiem also clarified accusations that he was "stuttering" when explaining the origins of his wealth. He emphasized that all of his assets, the majority of which consists of GoTo shares, are public and transparently recorded in the State Property Tax (LHKPN). "The prosecutor already knows I can't possibly pay it back. That would be like adding nine years to my sentence," he added.
