But folding knives are really nice and the slipjoint mechanism has exerted a certain fascination on me since the first time I broke a Swiss army knife. There are only two moving parts but it is quite challenging to get it to work properly. I accepted the challenge and designed and built my first folding knife. It is a simple design with wooden scales made from piece of holm oak that I nicked from a firewood pile in Corsica years ago. It's not perfect but I like the clear straight lines and it cuts pieces of apple rather well. Want to make your own?
