Himalaya: A Silent Emergency । हिमालय को दुनिया का “Third Pole” कहा जाता है. यही पर्वत श्रृंखला एशिया की बड़ी नदियों को जन्म देती है और करोड़ों लोगों की जल सुरक्षा से जुड़ी है. लेकिन क्या हिमालय सुरक्षित है? क्या विकास और जलवायु परिवर्तन ने इस क्षेत्र को एक खामोश आपातकाल की ओर धकेल दिया है? उत्तराखंड के पहाड़ी इलाकों में पिछले कुछ वर्षों में आपदाओं की आवृत्ति बढ़ी है. बर्फबारी का समय बदल गया है, बारिश का पैटर्न असंतुलित हो चुका है और ग्लेशियर लगातार पीछे हट रहे हैं. गांव खाली हो रहे हैं, जिन्हें अब “Ghost Villages” कहा जाता है. सवाल है — क्या ये सिर्फ पलायन है या बदलती जलवायु और विकास मॉडल का परिणाम? ABP Creative Lab की टीम ने हिमालय क्षेत्र में 72 घंटे की ग्राउंड पड़ताल की. इस दौरान देहरादून से लेकर नैनबाग, नागथात, लखवाड़, रणोंगी, पाब जैसे दूरस्थ गांवों तक, किसानों, सामाजिक कार्यकर्ताओं और स्थानीय लोगों से बात की गई. सेब की घटती पैदावार, सूखते जलस्रोत, अनियोजित पर्यटन, ट्रैफिक और कचरे का बढ़ता दबाव, हर मुद्दा जमीन पर दिखाई देता है. इसी बीच बड़े विकास प्रोजेक्ट्स भी चर्चा में हैं. लखवाड़ बांध परियोजना में कईर गांव डूब क्षेत्र में आ चुके हैं. Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA) रिपोर्ट खुद स्वीकार करती है कि नदी का प्राकृतिक प्रवाह बदलेगा और कई गांव प्रभावित होंगे. प्रभावित परिवारों के सामने मुआवजा, विस्थापन और भविष्य की अनिश्चितता सबसे बड़ा सवाल है. नदियां जैसे गंगा और यमुना जिन पर मैदानों की आबादी निर्भर है, उन्हीं का स्रोत क्षेत्र दबाव में है. हिमालय में हो रहा बदलाव सिर्फ पहाड़ों तक सीमित नहीं रहेगा. ये विकास बनाम पर्यावरण की बहस नहीं है. ये जमीनी हकीकत की रिपोर्ट है. सवाल सिर्फ इतना है कि क्या हिमालय चेतावनी दे रहा है और क्या हम उसे सुन पा रहे हैं? The Himalaya is often called the “Third Pole.” This mountain range gives birth to Asia’s major rivers and is directly linked to the water security of millions of people. But is the Himalaya safe? Have development and climate change pushed this region toward a silent emergency? In the hill regions of Uttarakhand, the frequency of disasters has increased in recent years. The timing of snowfall has shifted, rainfall patterns have become erratic, and glaciers are steadily retreating. Villages are being abandoned, now referred to as “Ghost Villages.” The question is — is this merely migration, or the result of changing climate conditions and the current development model? The ABP Creative Lab team conducted a 72-hour ground investigation across the Himalayan region. During this time, they traveled from Dehradun to remote villages such as Nainbagh, Nagthat, Lakhwar, Ranogi, and Paab, speaking with farmers, social activists, and local residents. Declining apple production, drying water sources, unplanned tourism, traffic congestion, and the growing burden of waste — every issue is visible on the ground. Meanwhile, large development projects are also under scrutiny. Under the Lakhwar Dam project, several villages have already come under the submergence zone. The Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA) report itself acknowledges that the natural flow of the river will change and that multiple villages will be affected. For the impacted families, compensation, displacement, and uncertainty about the future remain the biggest concerns. Rivers such as the Ganga and the Yamuna, on which millions in the plains depend, originate from this very region that is now under pressure. The changes occurring in the Himalaya will not remain confined to the mountains. This is not a debate of development versus environment. This is a ground reality report.
