On July 1st, in the Basilica of Gethsemane in Jerusalem, Cardinal Pierbattista Pizzaballa ordained ten new priests from various nations. It was a meaningful rite, celebrated on the liturgical feast of the Most Precious Blood. Cardinal Pizzaballa, in his homily, recalled that the priesthood is born of the blood of Christ—blood that invokes mercy, forgiveness, and communion, more eloquent than that of Abel, who cried out for justice. The priest, configured to Christ, becomes a witness to the mystery of Love that reconciled the world. Among the ten ordained, the stories of Fr. Eduardo Javier González Quesada, a Mexican Franciscan who felt the call to the priesthood as a child, at the age of 3 or 4, and Fr. Mervin Gladstone Gomez, who left a brilliant career as an economist in Abu Dhabi after seeing a Custody vocation video with a phrase that remained dear to his heart: "The Holy Land is calling you."
