Inside Casa CLL: A Contemporary Brazilian House Shaped by Nature
Nestled within the rolling landscape of Porto Feliz, in the countryside of São Paulo, Casa CLL is a 992-square-meter residence designed by Bernardes Arquitetura as a place for gathering, retreat, and connection with nature. Completed in 2022, the award-winning project unfolds across a sloping site through a sequence of terraces that organize private, social, and leisure spaces while allowing the architecture to follow the natural terrain. A single floating roof unifies much of the house, creating a delicate balance between intimacy and openness, while gardens, courtyards, water, and landscape become integral parts of the spatial experience. Recognized internationally with distinctions including the LOOP Design Award, the Architecture MasterPrize, and the AsBEA Award, Casa CLL exemplifies Bernardes Arquitetura’s ability to merge architecture, landscape, sustainability, and materiality into a single architectural gesture. A restrained palette of stone, timber, and greenery reinforces the project's strong connection to its surroundings, while landscape design by Marcelo Faisal and lighting design by Foco Luz e Desenho further enhance its atmosphere. In this film, we explore Casa CLL through a poetic and cinematic architectural journey. As the camera moves through terraces, gardens, courtyards, and shaded pathways, the house gradually reveals itself through light, movement, and carefully framed views of the landscape. Alongside this immersive experience, the film features conversations with the architects behind the project, offering insight into the ideas, challenges, and design decisions that shaped the residence. Their reflections reveal how the house emerged from the site's topography, how movement became a fundamental design tool, and how architecture and landscape were conceived as a continuous experience rather than separate elements. More than a house tour, this film is an exploration of contemporary Brazilian architecture through the lens of one of Bernardes Arquitetura’s most celebrated residential projects, inviting viewers to experience the project not only as a building, but as a carefully choreographed relationship between land, light, nature, and habitation.
