The last 55 days of the Christian Democrat statesman's life begin, before he was assassinated on May 9, 1978. Focus' Storiainpodcast tells the story of those who tried to save Aldo Moro's life. The presidency of the Senate Historical Archives has allowed us to listen to and share with you, for the first time in this podcast, the tapes of the Moro Commission hearings and to read and photograph the diaries of Amintore Fanfani, then the second highest official in the state. In the archives of the Craxi Foundation, we read Bettino Craxi's handwritten memoir on the socialist initiatives to save Moro. From RadioRadicale's precious archive, we listened to recordings of the most significant moments of the affair. We met some of the key figures in that unsuccessful attempt, which history will remember with a feminine noun: Trattativa (Negotiation), which, contrasted with Fermezza (Strength), will mark, in the dramatic clash between two lines of principle, a tragic moment in our political history.
