The central nervous system consists of the spinal cord and the brain. The nervous system is responsible for receiving, transmitting, and processing information. Nerve cells serve to transmit information from stimuli. They differ in shape from other cells in the body. They have two sides. The processing of stimuli begins at the dendrites, which transmit them to the cell body.
