Why did URSUS have to GO BANKRUPT? URSUS is a legendary brand of the Polish engineering industry with a 125-year tradition. So what led to this legend of the Polish automotive industry declaring bankruptcy again? During the communist era, Ursus was unrivaled! It was a true giant, but unfortunately, the company lacked the knowledge to utilize this production potential (Ursus had previously been a national monopoly, but suddenly found itself in a capitalist and open market, where it had to compete with Western corporations). Hundreds of thousands of tractors leaving the factory became a symbol of the progress and independence of the Polish countryside. Products from this brand were exported worldwide, and Ursus had ambitious plans for the coming decades – the company even dreamed of conquering Africa. Everything changed after the political transformation, when the factory – a giant of the communist era – suddenly had to survive in a free market environment. The 1990s were a true test of strength for Ursus. Massive debt, rising costs, and fierce foreign competition were just some of the challenges the company faced in the new economic reality. Successive attempts to save Ursus – including new model designs and export agreements – were not enough to restore the brand to its former glory. Now, after years of struggle, the Ursus factory, a symbol of industrial power, has fallen under the receiver's hammer. Interestingly, Ursus has left its mark even on the Warsaw landscape – one of the city's districts was named after this legendary brand. Today, only memories and symbolic neon signs in the shape of tractors remain of the former factory buildings. Will Ursus truly be resurrected thanks to a new investor, or is this just the final spark in the hands of a random buyer?
