Production Throwing - A batch of small rose-embossed flowerpots thrown by Gabriel Nichols

Demonstrating the techniques that he uses to achieve consistency across the longer runs that are the norm for production throwers. He also explains one of the methods which he uses to apply decorative mouldings to the various kinds of pots produced in the pottery shed. Gabriel Nichols is a potter with over 40 years' throwing experience in the industry. He produces a range of pottery; in addition to the various pots, he also produces tiles, bricks and chimney pots to a range of designs and specifications. The methods used are traditional, as is the material. All of the clay used in these videos is wild clay. It is dug from the banks of the Humber Estuary very close to the yard where the ceramics are produced, literally in the shadow of the Humber Bridge. This alluvial, estuarine clay way laid down thousands of years ago, the deposits left behind as the river estuary altered its course over the years. After digging, the clay is left to weather in the yard for an extended period - this weathering is a necessary step in rendering the clay ready for putting through a pugmill. These are the only two processing steps - the clay is otherwise "as dug", or wild. #clay #pottery #potteryprocess #potter #ceramics #artisan #asmr #calm #calming #relaxing #relaxingsounds #relax #soothing #relaxation #craftsman #crafts #productionpottery #heritage #heritagecrafts #wildclay #lincolnshire #humber #flowerpots #traditionalskills #traditional #traditionalpottery #handmade #wheelthrownpottery #wheelthrownpottery #traditionalcraftsmanship Videos about pottery The Great Pottery Throwdown chimneypot Making pottery on a wheel How do you make large pots on a pottery wheel How are clay pots made Relax and unwind as you watch a skilled artisan create unique, one-of-a-kind flowerpots using traditional techniques Watch professional potter create beautiful traditional flowerpots using wild clay from Lincolnshire and the Humber pottery making using locally sourced clay unglazed terracotta pots for garden and outdoor use hand-thrown terracotta pots with strength and durability frost-resistant terracotta pots for cold climates traditional terracotta pottery making techniques Videos with closed captions
