Are Shin Megami Tensei Demikids: Red Book & Black Book Good Pokémon Clones? | Aligning Megami Tensei
In this episode of Aligning Megami Tensei, we take a closer look at Shin Megami Tensei: Devil Children – Red Book & Black Book, the debut titles of Atlus’ Demikids series. Released during the peak of Pokémon and Yu-Gi-Oh! craze in the late ‘90s to early 2000s, the Demikids games are often dismissed as nothing more than bad Pokémon clones that don’t add much to the monster-collecting genre. But I’m not entirely sure if that’s true. Or even a fair assessment of the games. So, in this video, I’ll dive into Demikids: Red Book & Black Book to explore if these Shin Megami Tensei spin-offs are good Pokémon clones and if they deserve more attention than they usually get. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Intro: 0:00 Intro to Demikids: 1:02 Brief Thoughts: 1:54 Setup and Story: 2:39 Exploration: 5:05 Party and Combat System: 6:18 Recruiting and Fusion Systems: 11:15 Art, Music, & PS1 Remake: 13:52 Final Thoughts: 15:47 -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Subscribe for more in-depth reviews and discussions on Shin Megami Tensei, Persona, and other games!
