However, amidst the darkness of polytheism, a handful of people remained steadfast in their rejection of idol worship and continued to seek the true religion, namely the teachings of monotheism inherited from Prophet Abraham (peace be upon him). They were known as the hanif (righteous) people, unwilling to follow the traditions of polytheism that had become deeply rooted in society. This study examines the stories of four figures who rejected idol worship before the arrival of Islam, their journeys in seeking the truth, and their steadfastness in upholding the creed of monotheism in a society rife with idol worship. This study also examines the identities of these figures, their reasons for rejecting polytheism, and how they strove to follow the teachings of Prophet Abraham (peace be upon him) amidst the decaying faith of Arab society at that time.
