Inside OMA’s New Museum Expansion in NYC

The New Museum has reopened with a new expansion designed by OMA, creating a beautiful architectural dialogue with SANAA’s iconic 2007 building. Rather than imitating the original, the addition introduces a new architectural language; balancing vertical and horizontal forms, lightness and solidity, fragmentation and continuity. Together, the two buildings demonstrate how contrast can strengthen architecture. In this video, we explore how OMA approached one of New York City’s most recognizable contemporary museums, the design decisions behind the expansion, and why this project is much more than simply adding square footage.
