Bach's Prelude in C Major from the Well-Tempered Clavier BMV 846 is a classical music treasure. French composer, Charles Gounod, enjoyed it so much, he added what ended up being a seamless melody atop the original score. He did so so convincingly that it's easy to to think that his arrangement is was the way the piece was originally written to be performed. He did this with the addition of two extra bars (running consecutively) that are different from Bach's original composition. This is the first video that exists on all of the interwebs of me playing piano! Ironically, I started on piano when I was 5 years old, and I actually used to be pretty good. After starting bass at 11, it wasn't until high school that it looked like bass might become my sole focus. Playing piano was a huge help in my musical studies (and I highly recommend it!). This is also the very first collaboration that I've ever done with myself. It was done a bit in haste as part of a fundraiser that was hosted by Xavier Foley and his students to help raise money for three organizations: My own organization, Project 440 (project440.org), The Sphinx Organization (https://www.sphinxmusic.org), and the Harmony Program (http://harmonyprogram.org/). I'm excited about the possibilities of doing more collaborations with myself for a few reasons 1) I never get mad at accompanist (collaborative pianist), 2) It's like my collaborative pianist knows what I'm thinking, and 3) It gives me an excuse to practice more piano!
