Exercise 1 Explain the effect of a dielectric on a parallel-plate capacitor and what the consequences are regarding charge, potential difference, and capacitance. Exercise 2 Deduce the formula for the capacitance of a parallel-plate, spherical, and cylindrical capacitor. Deduce again the law of combination of capacitors in series and in parallel. Exercise 3 A parallel-plate capacitor has circular plates with a radius of 12 cm and a separation of 1 mm. According to this information, determine: 3.1 The capacitance; 3.2 The amount of charge stored on the plates if a potential difference of 120 V is applied. Exercise 4 Two capacitors, with capacitances of 6µF and 8µF, are connected through a potential difference of 320V. Calculate the total energy stored in the system, if the connection is in: 4.1 Parallel; 4.2 Series.
