Widespread wildfires that broke out in southwestern France and central Spain on Friday forced authorities to evacuate tens of thousands of people from their homes, as the flames raged out of control due to strong winds and high temperatures. Some residents in France were forced to flee by boat after the fires swept through the popular tourist peninsula of Cap Ferret on the Atlantic coast.
