Leader of the Opposition Yuri Alemao has said the Congress has unanimously backed the appointment of Girish Chodankar as the new Goa Pradesh Congress Committee (GPCC) president, adding that the decision was taken only after extensive consultations with all party MLAs and senior leaders. Speaking on Prudent's Head on Alemao described Chodankar as a loyal Congress leader, Alemao said the party is united behind the leadership change and is now focused on strengthening the organisation ahead of the 2027 Goa Assembly elections. Alemao asserted that defeating the BJP in the 2027 polls would require a grand alliance of Opposition parties, stating that there was no alternative to Opposition unity. He also made it clear that the Congress would not induct defectors into the party nor offer them Assembly tickets, reiterating the party's stand against political turncoats.
