Dell Inspiron 17-5000 Series Basic Disassembly (HDD/SSD, memory, fan, battery) (4K) - Jody Bruchon
A comprehensive teardown and component-level analysis of the Dell Inspiron 17-5000 (Model 5770) chassis architecture. This technical guide covers non-volatile memory express (NVMe) expandability, SODIMM memory bank access, and thermal management subsystem maintenance. Includes an evaluation of Z-height clearance for 2.5-inch SATA form-factor drives (7mm vs 9.5mm) and a detailed review of internal fastener retention and chassis clip engagement for enterprise-grade field service. Basic disassembly of a Dell Inspiron 17-5000 is as simple as removing the bottom plastic shell. Unscrew all the bottom screws and carefully use a pry tool to pop the plastic clips around the edges. Once removed, you'll have access to most of the internals and can do most upgrades and repairs quite easily. The SATA hard drive or SSD, NVMe SSD slot, RAM slots, CPU fan and heatsink, battery, and motherboard are all easy to work on once you're in. The backlit keyboard is under the motherboard and is probably a pain to replace; I don't disassemble that far because I'm only opening it to upgrade to a SATA SSD. One of these laptops with an i5 or i7 and backlit keyboard will run you around $650; if you do the SSD upgrade yourself, you'll have a really sweet $700 17-inch laptop.
