Exploring an Abandoned Horse Racing Ranch in California

Today we’ll be exploring a Southern California ranch that produced some of the most talented racehorses in the racing industry. The Ranch was mainly utilized for racehorses, including breeding, training, and lay-ups. The 153 acres that made up the total area of the ranch were divided into a 5/8 mile racetrack, 11 large pastures ranging from 15-25 acres, 34 large grass paddocks and over 100 smaller turnout pens. When filled to capacity the ranch could accommodate 750 animals but usually carried an average animal population of 350 horses. Approximately 150 mares, 100 yearlings and 100 to 125 racehorses in training could be found on the grounds the majority of the time. In June of 1989, “J.L.” purchased 153 acres in Southern California to establish this Ranch. After decades of successfully owning and operating the ranch, the family ultimately decided to sell the ranch. The property was put up for sale in 2015 and has been abandoned ever since.. #abandoned #abandonedplaces #explore
