FORLI - Basilica di San Pellegrino Laziosi

Basilica of San Pellegrino Laziosi is the popular name for the church of Santa Maria dei Servi and consists of three naves, with ten side altars, all converging towards the apse. It is built on a pre-existing church, dedicated to Sant'Agnese, of which you can see the ogival portal inserted in the current facade. Also noteworthy is the fourteenth-century wooden choir: the only example of Gothic style in Romagna and perhaps the oldest in the entire region. Due to the importance of the works existing there, the sanctuary was declared a national monument. The sepulchral monument of Luffo Numai, present on the right side, was sculpted in 1502 by Tommaso Fiamberti and Giovanni Ricci. Very interesting is the fourteenth-century Chapter Hall, which houses the miraculous Crucifix, in front of which San Pellegrino obtained instant healing from gangrene in his leg, by Giuliano da Rimini (not shown in the video). The third chapel on the right houses the sumptuous Chapel of San Pellegrino, dating back to the eighteenth century and designed by Giuseppe Merenda between 1741 and 1743. This chapel is richly decorated with polychrome marble and gold decorations. Inside is the urn containing the relics of San Pellegrino and, on the back of the altar, you can admire the painting by Simone Cantarini based on a design by Guido Reni, depicting “Christ crucified healing the leg of San Pellegrino”.
