Curbing Ego With Curiosity (ft Justin Wagner)

In a craft like routesetting, there’s a place for taking pride in the work we do. But as any routesetting team can likely attest, it’s easy for creative ego to get out of balance. An overblown ego can make setters difficult to work with, challenging for gym members to approach, and ultimately stunt our creative growth. Fortunately, there’s an antidote that often does the trick: curiosity. Join us as we talk with Justin Wagner about how he fosters curiosity—both for himself and on the setting team he leads—after decades of routesetting. Justin Wagner is an Arizona native who started climbing while attending college in Flagstaff, AZ. He began setting shortly after and has worked in various Arizona gyms for 23 years, doing everything from cleaning to managing, coaching and routesetting. He is currently the Head Routesetter at the Bouldering Project in Tempe, AZ, and owns his own business, called Planetary Climbing, specializing in designing and building custom rock climbing walls. This webinar is ideal for all routesetters seeking to improve team dynamics. CBJ is proud to partner with Vortex Routesetting on these discussions.
