DIY Lo-Fi Sampler With An ESP32: Part 7 - MAX9814 Electret Microphone

In this episode, I try to clean up the noisy, crunchy audio on my ESP32-based sampler by swapping in a MAX9814 electret mic module. It’s got automatic gain control, built-in preamp, and puts out a proper signal — way better than the shout-only mic I had before. Using the same code from Part 6, I show what difference the MAX9814 makes, and walk through a few tricks I tried in software to improve the sound: full 12-bit ADC resolution, DC offset removal, and a quick low-pass filter. The result? Slightly better. 🎛️ MAX9814 Microphone module I'm using: https://amzn.to/3Zt4SCt 🔗 Read the full article and grab the code on Medium:   / diy-lo-fi-sampler-with-an-esp32-part-7-max...   ⏱️ Timestamps 0:00 - Introduction / MAX9814 Specs 1:37 - Sound Demo #1 2:00 - Reaction and Possible Tweaks 3:33 - Code Walkthrough 6:40 - Sound Demo #2 6:55 - Outro 👂 What do you think? Should I stick with this crunchy sound or go hi-fi with an external ADC? Let me know in the comments!
