Among the great military victories achieved by Stephen the Great is the one at Codrii Cosminului. After defeating the armies of Mehmed II, the conqueror of Constantinople, the armies of the Tatars and the army of the Hungarian king Matthias Corvinus, in the Battle of Baia, towards the end of his reign, Stephen also defeated the King of Poland in the Battle of Codrii Cosminului, who had entered Moldova with his army to remove the Moldavian ruler from the throne. Just from the list of Stephen's defeats, you can understand that Moldova was surrounded by enemies: the Turks to the southeast, the Tatars to the northeast, the Hungarians to the west and the Poles to the north. That is why it is a miracle that he managed to remain on the Moldavian throne for 47 years, that is, a human life. However, in order to survive, both he and Moldova, Stefan had to make political compromises. Let's discover how the confrontation with the Poles came about, in a complicated political context.
