Jury (1983) Episode One 'JOHN'

This is a thirteen part series, and a new weekly series for the channel. For those fans of Courtroom drama, this practically forgotten series has more in common with Jimmy McGovern’s Accused, prioritizing human stories over pure procedure, than it does with say Crown Court's more focused representation of court procedures. Both Jury and Accused use the courtroom as a framing device for broader commentary on society, class, relationships, and personal agency. Twelve members of the public are picked as jurors in a rape trial. Each episode, from this thirteen part series, introduces us to one of the jurors who will help decide whether a young man, accused of rape, will be found guilty of the crime and be sent to prison for life. During the course of each episode we learn something about each jury member and see how their verdict will be affected by the kind of people they are. Originally broadcast on Thursday's at 21:25 and this first episode aired on the 7th April, 1983. Desmond McNamara stars as John, and juror number one.
