Jed, disappointed by the lack of good hunting in Beverly Hills, seems like the perfect candidate for the sport. To spark their interest, Drysdale and Miss Jane bring a taxidermied trophy fish to the mansion, suggesting they mount it on the wall. However, Granny has other plans—assuming it’s fresh, she immediately tries to cook it. Meanwhile, her deep fear of boats keeps the Clampetts from heading out to sea, so they come up with their own alternative. Instead of chartering a fishing boat, they head to a bridge over the Los Angeles River, believing it to be a suitable fishing spot. Undeterred, Drysdale pushes forward with his plan. He informs Jed and Granny that he has gone ahead and chartered a boat for them, but Granny’s fear of boats temporarily derails the idea. Determined to win them over, he suggests they visit Marineland to see the types of fish they could catch out in the ocean. The Clampetts, always eager to help, decide to save Drysdale the trouble and go to Marineland on their own. Once there, Granny is fascinated by what she believes to be enormous “fishing holes” and sets her sights on catching a whale. The entire family is stunned when they see just how massive a whale really is, but Granny remains undeterred, convinced she can reel one in. Meanwhile, Elly takes a liking to a walrus and insists on bringing it home, but Jed manages to stop her—at least for the moment. However, when they return to the mansion, it turns out Elly has managed to sneak a baby seal home with her, proving once again that she can’t resist adopting every critter she meets.
