SARA - Fleetwood Mac (Acoustic Cover) by Johnny Alonso
http://IMDb.me/johnnyalonso / johnny.alonso This song brings back so many family childhood memories especially summer vacation and making the long haul pilgrimage to Disneyworld and hitting all the stops along I-95. As a kid I had one favorite stop that I always look forward to (no not South of the Border but yes that was my second fave) I had an Aunt Carmen who use to take care of my brother and I when we lived in New York before she got married and moved to Moncks Corner South Carolina. She was my favorite aunt growing up. She taught me how to ride a bike, to respect my elders and since she wasnt from this country she taught me how to stand up for myself - she taught me how to fight :) She like my mother, would encourage me to get into the lively arts - to sing, play piano and join stage plays at school. We use to have a "festa" in our old neighborhood in Queens and shes always ask/tell me to get on a table and sing to the nonnas. My Aunt Carmen and My Uncle Chris had a small home on a 3 acre lot. She grew corn, tomatoes, strawberries, string beans she even had a couple apple trees. She called that side of the property her "farm" the rest of the property had 10 million kinds of plants which meant a lot of bees. The house was a small but very cozy two bedroom with a kitchen that always had a light on and small black and white tv on some fuzzy channel, and something was ALWAYS cooking. The living room was lined with dark wood paneling and some shag carpet definitely from the 70s with a comfortable sofa and a big box family room television - the kind you had to walk up and turn the dial yourself. She had a powerful a/c unit that pretty much iced the family room but as soon as you walked down the hall or into the kitchen it was hot. The front door had a metal awning where you could park 2 cars under. I remember whenever my parents would pull up to the house there was always 1 spot available to park our van under the awning. My Uncle Chris would park his car on the lawn to make room for us. In the back they had a screened in patio and I remember that ceiling fan too was always on low power. One night after a barbeque dinner with corn on the cob from her "farm" my Aunt Carmen asked if i wanted to sing for her. At the time i was like "not really" but if she asked it probably meant she really wanted me to sing for her. My dad was still buying 8 track tapes and had Fleetwood Mac's Rumors on repeat on the drive down to Florida. I knew most of the words to Sara. My Uncle Chris gladly cued the 8 track on his living room player so I can sing to it, and now its a whole big thing so I HAD to sing. When I was done of course the family applauded. My Aunt Carmen said to me "please never stop singing for others" In the end its a memory I will never forget. I was in Charlotte S.C. last February and decided to look for my aunt's old house in Monk Corner. Well I found it, but unfortunately thru the years new neighbors bought the property and let the house go. It got trashed by vandals and graffiti artists. All the windows were smashed and boarded up, all the aluminum siding was taken off the front and back of the home including the front awning im assuming sold to a metal scrap yard for weight. I shot this video where the screened in patio use to be. In a weird way I was hoping to see the old house exactly as I remember with the wood panel walls and food in the kitchen with Donna the dog running around. Maybe my Aunt Carmen would meet me at the front door. Still in some off beat way, it was nice to see something was still there from a time that I loved so much with my Aunt Carmen my Uncle Chris and my family. Here's my acoustic rendition of the classic late 70s song Sara by Fleetwood Mac. Please give my video a thumbs up and please drop a comment. I reply to every comment posted. Let me know where you are in the world I like knowing my videos are being played in other countries and states. Thanks for reading and thanks for stopping by!!
