The best thing about Johnny Carson was his never forgetting his roots. He loved having perfectly ordinary middle Americans frequent his Tonight Show, and treated each of them as reverently as his famous celebrity guests. This particular spot from September 27, 1989 featured a quick-witted 93 year old who volunteered 8 hours per day, 7 days per week at a local hospital.
