I Drove The World's Tallest Roller Coaster Across America
What happened to Kingda Ka? Where is Kingda Ka now? Did Kingda Ka get demolished? These are the questions I’ve been seeing all over the place, and honestly, I wanted answers too. I was lucky enough to get the opportunity to join a small team on a secret mission to drive what remains of Kingda Ka, the world’s tallest roller coaster, over 1,800 miles — from Six Flags Great Adventure in New Jersey to the National Roller Coaster Museum in Texas. Yeah. This actually happened. Along the way, I make stops at some of the most legendary and unique launch coasters in America to compare them to Kingda Ka and show how rare these launch systems are becoming. At Hersheypark, I stopped at Storm Runner, a rare hydraulic launch coaster that uses the same Intamin launch system as Kingda Ka. At Holiday World, I rode Thunderbird, one of the smoothest and most powerful LSM launch wing coasters in the country. And at Silver Dollar City, I checked out Powder Keg, a unique compressed air launch roller coaster tucked away in the Ozarks. This is part road trip vlog, part roller coaster deep dive, and a full-on coaster preservation mission to honor what Kingda Ka meant to roller coaster enthusiasts around the world. Yes, Kingda Ka has officially been demolished, and you can no longer ride it at Six Flags Great Adventure. But thanks to the amazing team at the National Roller Coaster Museum, and the generous support from the coaster community, we were able to help preserve a piece of roller coaster history so it can live on for future generations. We may not know what will end up as Kingda Ka's replacement, and the upcoming Falcon’s Flight at Six Flags Qiddiya may become the next world’s tallest roller coaster sometime in 2025 or 2026… but for millions of people, especially in America, Kingda Ka will always be the tallest roller coaster they ever rode. Special thanks to the entire Teal Team Six crew! What an unforgettable journey!
