REA2026 Religious Education in Faith Communities: Active Learning Environments in Faith Communities

With the growing displacement of people around the world due to violence, economic stress, and globalization, diverse faith communities can provide spaces of hospitality, support, and learning. The Religious Education in Faith Communities session explores three case studies from faith communities in the United States and the Netherlands that transform physical gathering spaces (such as cafés and community centers, etc.) into active learning environments. These spaces facilitate conversations among diverse groups of people whose lived realities differ significantly. The session will also provide opportunities to learn from diverse faith communities that have developed creative spaces for facilitating dialogue and engagement with displaced persons.
