Commerzbank vor dem Kipppunkt: "Eine Übernahme lässt sich kaum noch verhindern"

The takeover battle for Commerzbank is intensifying. While Italy's UniCredit is touting synergies, size, and European clout to support a merger, Martin Lück, Managing Director of Macro Monkey, sees it primarily as a classic hostile takeover attempt – and questions many of the arguments put forward. In an interview with wallstreetONLINE, Lück describes the offer from UniCredit CEO Andrea Orcel as consistently focused on shareholder value. The goal, he says, is to achieve maximum return on equity through strict cost discipline. However, he questions whether customers and employees would benefit equally. Commerzbank, in particular, has established itself as a key bank for small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) and scores points with intensive customer support in corporate banking and wealth management. Lück generally views the "Momentum 2030" strategy presented by Commerzbank CEO Bettina Orlopp positively. The bank has already significantly improved its profitability and still possesses further potential.
