My old friend Adam Carolla has some thoughts. And if you know Adam, you know exactly what I mean. If you don’t, well…you’re about to find out. Adam and I have known each other a long time, and every time we sit down, I’m reminded of something simple and increasingly rare—Adam tells you what he thinks. Not what he’s supposed to think or what plays well in polite company, but what he actually thinks. There’s a kind of clarity in that, and whether you agree with him or not, it makes for a conversation you really can’t ignore. We talk about everything—from his early days in radio and podcasting (back when nobody knew what a podcast was), to writing books he never planned to write, to the strange business of talking for a living. And mostly, we talk about what happens when the world you live in stops making sense. Adam has had a front row seat to the aftermath of the California fires, and it’s not something you can easily look past. He watched it happen, lived in it, and then did something a little unusual—he turned on a microphone and started documenting his brutally honest take in real time. What he saw then, he’s still seeing now, and according to him, not much has changed. If anything, it’s gotten more complicated. We still manage to laugh. A lot. Because if you’re going to stare straight at reality, you might as well bring a sense of humor with you. But underneath the humor is something a little more serious—a shared suspicion that a lot of what we’re being told doesn’t quite match what we’re actually seeing.
