Jumia shuts down business in Tanzania

Online retailer Jumia Technologies has closed its e-commerce business. The closure comes less than two weeks after it did the same in Cameroon. The company has been referred as the 'Amazon of Africa' for its business model. It sells its own stock and takes a cut of third-party transactions on its website. But the business model, it seems, has yet to pay off. Jumia missed revenue estimates for the second time in three quarters, according to results announced this month. In a statement released on Thursday, the online retailer said it would continue to service vendors and customers in the East African country via its classifieds business. So, what went wrong with Jumia's operations in Tanzania? Let's get the latest on this from CGTN's Daniel Kijo.
