Walkthrough of the Fowler Yaqui Masks Gallery with Professor David Shorter
"They are one of the only federally recognized native people in Mexico" explains David Shorter, a professor in the UCLA World Arts and Culture Department, about the native Yaqui people. Professor Shorter has spent several years researching the history and culture behind the Yaqui group. UCLA alumnus, Carlos Castaneda, played an intricate role in discovering the story behind certain masks of the Yaqui people. These masks have now been displayed in the Fowler Museum during the summer of 2014. Watch as Professor Shorter walks through the entire gallery and describes the significance of the Yaqui masks.
