The DANTE digital audio protocol allows the transmission of up to 512 bidirectional channels at 48 kHz and 24 bits over a single CAT5e or higher network cable. However, beyond 100 meters, Ethernet cable begins to experience signal loss. To transport digital signals over longer distances, multimode optical fiber is used. This requires a converter called an SFP (Small Form-Factor Pluggable) transceiver, which converts the network cable to optical fiber.
