What do women dream about? In their stories, there are no war machines or territorial conquests. There are, however, reliquaries, babies, and household items. Who designed these imaginaries? The woman who dreams them? The person who writes them for the magazine? And who is that person? A reader? Is it Gino Germani himself, interpreting them in the magazine Idilio in the late 1940s? In these women's dreams, there are also cars, moon landings, protests, liberation, and strategy. In these dreams, which are dominated by "Desperate," "Little," "Sad Brunette," "Big-Nosed Woman from Mendoza," and "Ugly Black Woman," stereotypes are both reinforced and subverted within the emancipatory power of psychoanalysis, a method that calls upon women to become subjects with their own subjective development. This lecture is part of the Therapy exhibition, which currently features three photomontages by Grete Stern, published in the magazine Idilio, with texts by Gino Germani.
